Thee Martian Boyfriends, from Belgium. Garage POP, mixing their love of ‘Back To The Grave’ style albums, with a hint of THE UNDERTONES. What could be better than that?
It's been exactly 10 years since the release of their self titled debut CD. Things changed radically in this period of time. Eric St. John is the only remaining original member of Thee MARTIAN BOYFRIENDS. From a quartet now reduced to a 3 piece. New commers are drummer Paul HAMESSE and Iris St JOHN who is now playing bass.
Both Eric & Paul also play in VICE BARRONS (one of the leading Belgium Garage Rock bands)
The bands own words…
The sound of the band has also evolved during this period of time. 10 years ago we were some frantic 60's garage outfit mainly influenced by the "Back from the grave" compilations. All fuzz and no brain some might say. ha ha
These days, the fuzz is still there but way more in the background of the songs. On most of the tunes, clean, drenched in reverb guitars are mostly playing in the foreground and they wrap all these newly recorded tracks up in some melancholic mood. I even tried some acoustic guitar on "Dance around the fire". I personally love this new guitar sounds and it is really a direction in which I wanna go in the future.
We are really proud of these new recordings that manage to capture the primitive and melancholic side of our sound. All the tracks on this new album are originals written and composed by yours truly. No covers on this one.
The cover art of the album, as for the previous one, reflects our love for 50's Sci-Fi movies. But this time around you will notice that all ambiguity is gone: creatures from the Red Planet (that is Mars, for you Morons!) are Gonna Take Over The World!
